Our last day in Hong Kong was spent on Lantau Island, the area where you will find Disney Land, the airport as well as the Tian Tan Buddha and the Po Lin Monastery.
To get there is very easy as the MRT goes straight there. The Monastery is located right at the top of the mountain and you can either go up on the bus or the cable car, we decided to go up in the bus as the line for the cable car was already very long. The bus ride is about 30 minutes and gives you beautiful views of the island.
Once you reach the top it is hard not to notice the Big Buddha which sits at the top of 268 steps, it is the biggest sitting down Buddha in the world and the view from the top is incredible. The monastery is located directly opposite the Buddha and contains the 10,000 room of Buddha’s which is a massive room containing 10,000 gold Buddha’s!
The day was a great way to end the trip and gave us an easy day in preparation for the New Year’s Eve celebrations where we met up with friends from Australia and brought in the New Year together.
